A basic multi-room audio system can be as simple as a single amplifier connected directly to a wall mounted volume control and a set of speakers in each room. This allows one source to be played around the home with separate control over the volume in each room.
More sophisticated systems offer increasing amounts of control in each room – CD in the living room, radio in the kitchen, mini-disc in the dining room but all work on the same principle. These units use a single box design with several stereo amplifiers and a computer that talks to wall mounted keypads and displays in each room. These systems give a host of additional features including the ability to play different sources in different rooms, an alarm clock facility, selection of tracks and sources and even in some cases a readout of the music being played.
The new breed of hard disc based audio systems allow you to store all of your CD collection and conveniently access it in a number of different ways. Many of these access their own websites and download all of the necessary track information, which can then be viewed on any video output device in the listening rooms. Music can then be sorted by artist, genre and type – then playlists created to match your mood.
What cost for all this technology? Too expensive you may think. Not so, a basic multi-room audio system can be installed for less than it costs to have separate midi or mini type system in every room and can be virtually invisible if in-wall or in-ceiling speakers are used.
Loud and Clear provide professional installation of all types of multi-room systems with redecoration or renovation generally being the best time to have the necessary cables installed. In the case of new build homes, we are experienced at liasing with contractors and subcontractors to have the wiring sub-systems installed while the house is being built. The team within our installation division will be happy to take the time to discuss your requirements and give advice on what type of system best suits your budget, needs and home.
